One of Maryland’s finest was injured near the end of October while on the job. The state trooper was sitting in his patrol car when his vehicle was apparently struck by an SUV. The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known. As is common following such a work-related injury, the trooper was provided medical treatment and is said to be recovering.
According to a recent report, the trooper was finalizing paperwork for the traffic stop he was conducting when his patrol car was struck. This incident is said to have occurred on the I-495 near Suitland Parkway. The force of impact is believed to have been quite significant. Debris was supposedly scattered which required that two lanes of traffic be shut down for about two hours in order to address the issue.
The trooper was transported to an emergency room for treatment soon after the crash. He is currently recovering at home. The individual believed responsible for this wreck has been arrested and is facing various criminal charges, including DUI and reckless driving — among numerous others.
Maryland troopers face dangerous situations on a daily basis. Unfortunately, suffering a work-related injury is not uncommon in this particular line of employment. When this does occur, these men and women have the right to access workers’ compensation benefits which should not only provide for their medical care, but also for lost wages and/or disability. Sometimes assistance is needed, though, in order to achieve full compensation. Legal help is available to help those who have suffered injuries while on the job receive what is deemed fair for their specific circumstances.
