Maryland wrongful death: 1 dead following hit-and-run accident

A recent hit-and-run accident in Maryland claimed the life of one young man. This individual was apparently helping another motorist when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Police are still looking for the driver believed responsible for this incident. When found, the victim’s family would be well within their rights to pursue a wrongful death claim in an effort to seek compensation for their losses.

According to police, a 21-year-old Marine was killed after he stopped to help a stranded motorist on Route 15 in the northwest portion of the state. He was supposedly standing next to his vehicle when a truck left the road and ran into him and his car. Witnesses have stated that the driver of the truck did initially stop close to where the accident occurred, but he or she soon after fled the scene.

The road was closed for nearly four hours to allow investigators and clean up crews to work. A description of the truck involved in this wreck has been released to the public. Police are asking that anyone with information about the driver believed responsible to please come forward.

While any fatal accident can take a significant toll on the surviving family members of a victim, a hit-and-run crash can be particularly taxing. Not being able to get answers right away and not knowing who is responsible for the loss of a loved one can be a terrible burden that no one should have to bear. When authorities are able to locate the driver thought responsible for this incident, the victim’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim in a Maryland civil court. In doing so, compensation and some sense of justice may be achieved if litigation proves successful.
