A woman is dead and a young man in police custody following a fatal crash in Maryland. Police believe the driver responsible for this auto-pedestrian accident may have been impaired at the time of the collision. Depending on the facts of the case, the victim’s surviving family members may be able to successfully pursue a wrongful death claim on her behalf.
A 49-year-old woman was standing near a bus stop when she was struck by a car driven by a 22-year-old male. This accident occurred south of Baltimore in what appears to be a residential neighborhood. After hitting the victim, the driver proceeded to hit two parked cars — one was located on the roadside and the other was parked in a driveway.
Witnesses to the incident claim to have seen the young man driving erratically. Shortly after the wreck, police arrested this individual on suspicion of DUI. An investigation is still underway; as such, formal charges in this matter are still pending.
A loss like this can be devastating to the victim’s family. The emotional aspect of losing a loved one can be difficult to recover from, and the financial aspect can take its toll as well. It is possible for the victim’s family to seek compensation for their losses by filing a wrongful death claim against the driver and/or vehicle owner — if different. If successfully litigated in a Maryland civil court, the victim’s family may be granted monetary relief for any damages they have sustained due to this incident.
