Maryland car accidents: 1 dead, others injured in multi-car crash

Accidents on the interstate are a fairly common occurrence. These car accidents happen quickly and often have tragic results. Such is the case for a recent crash in Maryland. A wreck on Interstate 68 left one person dead and several others in need of medical care.

The multi-vehicle wreck occurred before Christmas in the northwest part of the state. According to reports, this accordion-style collision involved five automobiles, including an SUV, van, a couple sedans and a tractor-trailer. The SUV supposedly rear-ended the van, setting off the chain reaction. The drivers and passengers from three of the cars involved required medical treatment. Sadly, one of the passengers in the van, a 26-year-old female, died of her injuries after arriving at the hospital.

This accident shut down the eastbound side of the highway to allow for medical crews and police to tend to the scene. It is unknown if any charges are pending against any of the drivers involved. This accident is still under investigation.

This incident has affected several lives. The injured victims may each have a long and difficult recovery in front of them, which will be physically demanding, financially straining and psychologically trying. The family members of the deceased will also face emotional and financial struggles as a result of this tragedy. Victims, and/or their family members, of these types of car accidents maintain the right to pursue legal claims against the person deemed responsible. If negligence is established, a Maryland civil court may award financial relief for any and all damages sustained in the crash, as applicable under state laws.
