Family members injured after clubhouse deck collapses

After the long winter we’ve had here in Baltimore it is no wonder why many residents are looking forward to spring and warmer temperatures. Time spent outdoors enjoying the warm spring sunshine can be a special treat after months of snow and cold. Many people like to relax and soak up a few rays outside on their backyard deck.

For one family, a get together on a clubhouse deck turned into a nightmare when it collapsed. The family was gathered for a party at the clubhouse three days before Christmas. As they joined together for a photo, the deck they were standing on gave way, causing the group of 24 to fall 15 feet to the concrete below.

A number of people were taken to hospitals with injuries. On man was hurt when he crashed into a support beam on the way down. Another man was able to prevent his 13-month-old daughter from being injured when he cradled her in his arms as they fell. The family reports that three of those who were injured are still unable to walk at this time.

The family has filed a premises liability lawsuit against the manufacturer of the deck and the clubhouse’s homeowners association that was responsible for maintaining it. They feel that the collapse was not just a freak accident, but something that was bound to happen sooner or later.

If you have been injured in an accident due to the negligence of a property owner, you may wish to speak with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your right to compensation.
